Florida House Committees, Experts to Meet Monday for Workshop on College Student Athlete Rights

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — While the nation prepares for the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship game Monday evening, state House lawmakers will gather for a timely meeting on the equal treatment of all student athletes and compensation for the use of their name, image and likeness.

The Florida Legislature this session is considering a policy option that goes beyond grant-in-aid and other benefits allowed by the NCAA, a regulating authority over intercollegiate sports. To better understand the issue, Florida House lawmakers on the Commerce, Education and Judiciary Committees will host a joint meeting to hear from experts who have been involved in the high-profile national conversation about student athletes.
